So THAT’S why Owen McElroy is a reigning first-team All-American.
The Leading Edge 2017 alumnus by way of Avon Old Farms (Conn.) was tabbed as the country’s top goalie a season ago. Saturday, he showed why he’s on his way to doing it again, stopping a ludicrous 24 shots to help Georgetown knock off Notre Dame, 16-11, in a battle of two of the country’s best en route to claiming Big East Defensive Player of the Week honors.

McElroy tied his career high with those 24 stops, a number that’s the second-most in a single game in Hoya history. He got plenty of help from fellow LE ’17 Connor Morin. The Morristown-Beard product started his career at Notre Dame before transferring to Georgetown. He beat up his old teammates to the tune of three goals, an assist and a ground ball to fuel the Hoyas’ offense.
